Who Are We?!
The site is the idea of Steve (redpillboy) and initially he will be writing the articles. In the future we hope to use other contributors and, of course, all registered users can have their say via the thread at the end of each article. We only ask that you observe the basic blogging rules found under our terms and conditions.
The contents reflect the opinions of redpillboy, his wife Gill (redpillgirl) and their four children (redpillsprogs), hence the liberal use of the words ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ throughout the site. Bitz and Babz (redpillchickens) do not wish to be associated with the site. Our son Billy (redpillsprog1/redpillboy2) is responsible for the layout of the site. If we have to be categorised, then we’re a free-thinking, white, middle-class family with socialist leanings and christian beliefs. Each of you will filter these facts through your own knowledge and experience but please give the site a chance and make up your own mind.
The site has been designed by Tim at Eko (redpillartboy). Until he gets to know us better, we expect Tim to take no responsibility for the content, tone or humour (or not) to be found on the site.
Why “Take The Red Pill”?
Fans of the film Matrix will be aware of the pivotal scene in which Morpheus offers Neo the choice between the red pill and the blue pill. In brief, taking the blue pill will leave Neo as he is, believing that the world which he can see, as it is presented to him by the authorities, is the real world. He will continue to believe the things he has always believed to be true. Taking the red pill means that he will see the world as it really is and his life will never be the same again.
Unlike the makers of Matrix, we do not believe that human babies are being harvested as a life source for alien beings. We do, however, believe that the real world is very different to the one presented to us by those with power and money (governments, corporations, mainstream media, organised religions, bodies like the World Bank, IMF and WTO etc.). One of our aims is to publicise this other world so that we can all make more informed choices, hence the name.
Also, the word “take“ suggests action and we are keen to be a part of an active community rather than a “chattering” one. The word “red” broadly reflects our left of centre political leanings although, like many others, we are questioning the ongoing validity of simplistic political terms like “left” and “right”.
For any visiting drug tsars, chemical community members or easily-led minors, the word “pill” does not mean that we endorse or promote the use of illegal street pharmaceuticals, although at least one of us snorted Lemsip as a child.
Why Yet Another Website?
We’ve been on a bit of a journey over the last few years and have been very grateful to those people who have challenged our limited blue pill worldview. Steve especially thought he knew most if not all of the answers but now has to admit somewhat humbly that the number is down into single figures. We have learned that there are more questions than answers and that we have much to learn from others, including those with a different or opposing worldview. As Paul Weller writes in “Changing Man”, “the more I know, the less I understand”.
We’d like to pass on some of what we’ve learned and we want to continue to learn from others as we travel together on this sometimes hard, confusing, dispiriting and lonely journey called life. We want to live life to the full.
Looking round, it’s possible to doubt whether a better world is a real possibility. There’s so much power and money in so few hands. So much fear, so little hope. Too little pant-wetting humour. So many questions unanswered. But there must be more than what we can see. So we’d like to connect and travel together.
Discovering, thinking, discussing, doing.
Challenging the status quo, taking action for change, enjoying the journey together.
Things must change and we believe that they can change.
So let’s take the red pill together and let the journey begin……….
